IHETS/I-Light Inform Members of Available Stimulus Funding
author: IHETS
IHETS and I-Light are pleased to inform you that the National Science Foundation (NSF) will invest $200 million in the Nation’s research facilities and research training infrastructure as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARI-R2). This means several grants — including approximately 100 awards in the $250,000 to $2,000,000 range — could be available for individual universities to apply for funds to upgrade their research, cyberinfrastructure and regional networks.
The main goals of the ARI-R2 program are as follows:
-
Update existing research facilities at institutions of higher education and other non-profit research organizations in order to support research that can address the challenges of the 21st century.
-
Enable academic departments or multi-organization consortia to renovate research facilities through the improvement of cyberinfrastructure to create environments that enhance research and integrate it with education.
-
Improve access to and increase use of next-generation research facilities for researchers, educators or students.
-
Assist research organizations, including those that have historically received limited Federal research and development funds, to improve their science and engineering research environments.
Deadlines for the awards are quickly approaching. Letters of intent are due by July 1, 2009 and full proposals are due by August 24, 2009. There is a limit of 1 proposal per organization. Proposals will be reviewed and/or rewarded prior to September 30, 2009.
Please note, this is an independent opportunity from the NTIA Broadband Stimulus Program that I-Light will be applying for in an attempt to connect the remaining schools to the I-Light network.
For more details about the ARI-R2 program or for specific application guidelines, please visit http://www.nsf.gov/od/oia/programs/ari/.
IHETS and I-LIGHT are available for assistance throughout the grant application process. Please contact:
