DePauw employs IHETS' streaming capabilities at their commencement for the second consecutive year.
DePauw University’s 2009 Commencement took place on May 17th, 2009. In cooperation with IHETS, DePauw streamed the event live over the Internet. This allowed live video viewing for family, friends, and more who are unable to attend the event in person. In addition, DePauw is allowing interested parties to view the archived video file of the event. So far, IHETS has provided the stream to help DePauw bring over 780 audiences the archived stream over the Internet.
IHETS was on-site the day of the commencement, helping with the video transitioning as well as streaming and archiving Windows Media audio and video. IHETS provided the video streaming and archiving equipment to connect with the Windows Media Server back at IHETS’ data center in Indianapolis, IN. Any Mac or Windows PC could connect to the stream, live or archived, using Windows Media Player. This is the second year in a row that IHETS and DePauw have come together to deliver live streaming media of this important event to family, friends, and more who are unable to attend in person.
Along with the live stream, IHETS’ work has gone towards the creation of the annual recording of the event, which becomes the production DVD for interested students and their families. Using a NewTek TriCaster and a video switcher, the crew of DePauw and IHETS’ Media Services Technician were able to finish the day of the ceremony with a production quality output for the event DVD. The DVD has now been sent for duplication and will be available in the coming weeks from DePauw University.
DePauw first partnered with IHETS in October 2005 to stream an important lecture, which enabled alumni and people with no affiliation to DePauw all over the world to be part of an historic event. Ken Owen, DePauw University’s Director of Media Relations, had this to say, “The IHETS team is wonderful to work with and has been a huge help in providing new ways of reaching out to and interacting with members of the DePauw family. It's a partnership I hope we can build upon.”
