IHETS has been engaging with different types of educators to enhance the way they bring knowledge to students and the communities they live in.

Monkey Business

A Ball State University Professor of Biology has been working with IHETS to add network cameras at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo to give his students an opportunity to observe animals while on campus.  This allows students to participate in a virtual field assignment while observing from the Ball State campus.  By utilizing the broadband wireless technology, an opportunity was provided to include aspects of exhibits that are not generally accessible via the zoo’s previously existing network infrastructure.

Redundancy for all

IHETS has teamed up with Purdue University’s Agriculture Information Technology Department (AgIT) in county extension offices throughout the state of Indiana.  Purdue’s AgIT group supports over 90 remote locations residing in every county throughout the state of Indiana.  The EBS spectrum managed by IHETS has coverage that works in a portion of the County Extension offices.  IHETS and Purdue AgIT are using the wireless broadband as a supplement and primary access back to valuable resources stored at Purdue’s West Lafayette campus.  This initiative provides multiple lifelines back to Purdue’s main campus and ensures a resilient network, incorporating multiple vendor failover capabilities.

Turn up the Temp

IHETS is providing schools throughout the state with 4G weather stations.  The weather stations are using the EBS spectrum to link data to a variety of weather related internet sites.  This data is being archived and is able to be used in multitude of ways, offering educators diversity in the incorporation of the data in their lesson plans.
