Video Conferencing

In 2008, IHETS introduced high resolution IP video conferencing capability that can provide a higher quality learning experience when used with appropriate endpoint equipment. HD video conferencing makes it possible for members to apply to fields of biology, architecture, and other resolution-sensitive applications.

How does video conferencing work?

IHETS' video conferencing services provide the technology for two or more locations to interact via two-way video and audio simultaneously. IHETS offers both low and high resolution IP video conferencing, providing the highest level of flexibility to our members.

To participate in a video conference each participant site must have a codec that has been certified to work with the IHETS video conferencing bridge. The certification process ensures that at the time of your event, everything will work smoothly.

Video Conferencing in Education

There are various interesting uses for video conferencing in the education field. These include collaboration between students at different campuses or different institutions on projects or research, the ability for a faculty member to keep in touch with the class while away at a conference, guest lecturers from other institutions, as well as distant learning and teaching scenarios. Due to the high quality of video with the technology it can be used in fields requiring more detailed visual interaction such as life sciences, nursing, engineering, and medical fields.

Video Conferencing in Administration

In an administrative context, video conferencing permits administrators to meet with peers at other institutions, business partners, and vendors at short notice similar to a traditional phone call, however, with the added benefit of visual interaction. This permits visual demonstration as well as offers the benefit of a more human interaction given all parties the ability to not just hear, but also see each other in the meeting.

Video Conferencing as a Green Technology

With the increasing use of video conferencing to displace face-to-face meetings an organization can reduce travel for such meetings by its employees. This results in significant cost and time savings. In addition the reduced impact on the environment resulting from decreased travel helps reduce the carbon footprint of an organization.

Accessing a video conference from a PC or receive site

Two-way IP video conferencing, both live and archived, can also be delivered to and accessed at more than 250 sites across the state. IHETS certifies and registers members interested in becoming video conferencing receive site endpoints. Learn how to register your site.
