Ad hoc committees overview

The Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education (IPSE) relies on ad hoc task groups to pursue special projects, but several committees and continuing teams are important in providing continuity in addressing major strategic initiatives. This includes the following groups and the outcomes for which they are accountable.

IPSE copyright committee

• Identify and monitor copyright issues of current importance to educators by examining developments in copyright law. Evaluate, recommend, and/or report to IPSE on options for copyright issues as appropriate.

IPSE faculty services team

• Formulate and implement interinstitutional faculty development opportunities, drawing both on institutional areas of expertise and opportunities through special projects. Special projects might include Indiana’s participation in the MERLOT project for promoting faculty peer review of online instructional objects and the Virtual Instructional Designer (VID) project at Indiana State University funded by the Federal Learning Anytime Anyplace Partnership Program.
  
• Promote exchange of experiences and research with technology-based learning among Indiana’s university faculties to foster new ideas about pedagogy and increase understanding of which technologies best serve different instructional purposes.

IPSE learner services team

• Develop a plan and set of actions to improve access and success of learners in technology-based education in Indiana (including advising and guidance as well as library and technology support functions). Consider a learner advisory group or focus groups as an important evaluation component.
  
• Define and adopt a common base of academic support services for distance learners (including learning centers as well as bursar, admissions, advising, registration, and financial aid functions).
  
• Note: This team incorporates elements of several current and former committees such as coordinators, advising and placement, enrollment issues, and admissions. It is assumed that ICN campus and learning center coordinators will meet frequently for resolution of common issues and for staff development.

IPSE market development team

• Analyze audiences: Identify significant educational needs of Indiana’s citizens, including new populations and audiences, their needs and abilities, and programs and services needed to address them.
• Expand awareness: Develop and implement a statewide marketing communications plan to increase awareness of distance learning opportunities available through the Indiana College Network among Indiana’s citizens.

IPSE program development team

• Develop short- and long-term plans for distance learning in Indiana, incorporating credit and noncredit learning opportunities at graduate, baccalaureate, associate, in-service, workforce, K-12, and pre-school levels, as well as plans to address focused needs.
  
• Recommend directions for program development grant program.

IPSE video scheduling committee

• Responsible for allocating IHETS video services for higher education by establishing a base schedule for each year and, through that process, resolving conflicting requests for satellite time or video bridge capacity.
  
• Advises the IPSE, as needed, on issues related to the allocation of these shared video resources.
