Brief biography
Eric Aupperle has an extensive history with the Merit Network and the University of Michigan. He began his career at the University of Michigan in 1963 as a lecturer in the departments of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Industrial & Operations Engineering, and Mathematics. From 1969 to 2002, Auperle served as a research engineer and research scientist at the university, where he was responsible for the development and operation of the state's interuniversity computer network and specialized in electronic fuze counter-measure applications of solid-state devices, pseudo-random communications systems counter-measures, and industrial research.
Aupperle began his affiliation with the Merit Network in 1969, serving as a project leader, associate director, director, and president, a post from which he retired in 2001. He also served as interim director of the University of Michigan's Computing Center from 1990 to 1992 as well as its associate director for communications from 1981 through 1989. He has a B.S.E. in electrical engineering, a B.S.E. in mathematics, and an M.S.E. in nuclear engineering, all from the University of Michigan. He was also awarded a professional degree (Instm. E.) in engineering by the Program in Computer Information and Control Engineering.
