Brief biography

Dr. Kate M. Carey is the lead officer for the Ohio Learning Network (OLN), an initiative of the Ohio Board of Regents charged with assisting colleges and universities to prepare for the Knowledge Economy. OLN is a consortium of two- and four-year public and independent colleges and universities in Ohio.

OLN sponsors an online catalog of certificates, courses, and degrees offered at a distance. OhioLEARNS! As the catalog is called, is available free to every Ohioan at www.ohiolearns.org. Additionally, OLN is a catalyst in building faculty capacity to teach at a distance, funds content creation in areas that meet the state’s strategic needs, and serves Ohioans with an academic planning and career counseling outreach staff.

She holds an associate of applied science in natural resources from Muskingum Area Technical College, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from The Ohio State University. Her doctorate in educational policy and leadership is from Ohio State. Her research interests are in state-level funding and policy issues and uses of educational technologies in teaching and learning.
