Steering the Bandwagon
Utilizing New Media for Course Development and Support
The Access Indiana State Backbone is beginning to reshape Indiana's technological environment for higher education and other public-sector organizations. Explore the latest developments in new technologies to reach and support learners across the state and beyond its borders at this two-day All Partners conference. Faculty, program and service administrators and coordinators, technologists, librarians, support staff, and service providers will have the opportunity to find out where the new bandwagon is heading and be a part of setting its direction. Janet K. Poley, Ph.D.
Janet Poley, a widely recognized leader in developing national and international collaborative distance education initiatives, was named in 1994 one of the 100 outstanding information technology leaders in government, business, and academia by Federal Computer Week. That same year, she became president and CEO of ADEC, a distance education consortium of 50 state universities and land grant colleges. Dr. Poley has arranged partnership and joint programs with Sigma XI and the National Science Foundation, focusing on national science policy and teaching improvement. She serves as the ADEC liaison to the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASAULGC) Commission on Information Technology, is a member of the Governor of Nebraska's Advisory Committee on the Western Governors University, and served as co-chair of the EDUCOM National Learning Infrastructure Initiative Think Tank on the Virtual University. Dr. Poley frequently assists USAID, the World Bank, and other international organizations with program design and educational planning related to distance education. In 1998, she testified on behalf of higher education before the President's Committee on Public Interest Obligations for Digital Television. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Ph.D. in adult and continuing education, Dr. Poley has been involved in training, technical assistance, program design, and evaluation in more than 20 countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe. In recognition of her international contributions, Dr. Poley received the U.S. Congress' Excalibur Award, the Secretary of Agriculture's Award for Diversity, and the USDA Administrator's Award of Excellence. Dr. Poley is a distinguished speaker and has written extensively on distance education and new technologies.
