Overview

The Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education (IPSE) awards program was established in 2002 as a means of recognizing Indiana faculty and instructional support staff who have exhibited extraordinary innovation and leadership in the utilization of technology to enhance teaching and learning, both on and off campus. IHETS administers the annual awards competition on behalf of IPSE. There are three award categories—two for faculty and one for instructional support staff—in the following areas:

• Teaching with technology in a distance education program (faculty)
• Teaching with technology on campus (faculty)
• Support for online teaching and learning (instructional support staff)

The annual Call for Nominations is issued early in the spring and winners are announced at the IHETS/IPSE All Partners Conference in April. When the new Call for Nominations is available, it will be posted here. Selection criteria and eligibility information for each award category are given below:

Category: Teaching with Technology in a Distance Education Program

Eligibility: Individual faculty who have used one-way video, two-way video, and/or the Internet to teach at least two distance education or hybrid courses. At least 50 percent of the instruction for the qualifying courses must have been delivered via technology.

Selection criteria:

• Consistently demonstrates innovation and creativity in use of technology to improve learning in distance education or hybrid courses
• Recognized as a leader in the innovative use of technology in distance education courses at the college, campus, system and/or national level
• Recognized for outstanding teaching and effective use of technology in distance education courses by students and colleagues at the college, campus, system and/or national level
• Actively promotes effective and innovative use of technology in distance education at the college, campus, and/or national level through activities such as publication, presentation at conferences and workshops, mentoring programs, professional service activities, and/or committee work

Category: Teaching with Technology on Campus

Eligibility: Individual faculty who have been using technology in on-campus classes for at least two years.

Selection criteria:

• Consistently demonstrates innovation and creativity in use of technology to improve learning in on-campus courses
• Recognized as a leader in the innovative use of instructional technology at the college, campus, system and/or national level
• Recognized for outstanding teaching and effective use of technology in on-campus courses by students and colleagues at the college, campus, system and/or national level
• Actively promotes effective and innovative use of technology in on-campus courses at the college, campus, and/or national level through activities such as publication, presentation at conferences and workshops, mentoring programs, professional service activities, and/or committee work

Category: Support for Online Teaching and Learning

Eligibility: Institutional personnel who support online teaching and learning, including but not limited to librarians, instructional designers, producers, on-air directors, graphics designers, Web developers, and multimedia producers. Individual and team nominations will be accepted. If awarded to a team, the prize money will be divided among the team members.

Selection criteria:

• Consistently demonstrates innovation and creativity in the development and implementation of programs and services that directly and effectively support online teaching and learning
• Recognized as a leader in supporting the innovative use of technology at the college, campus, system and/or national level
• Responsible for the development and implementation of college-, campus-, or system-level programs and services that have had a positive impact on a significant number of faculty
• Actively promotes effective and innovative practices in instructional support at the college, campus, and/or national level through activities such as publication, presentation at conferences and workshops, mentoring programs, professional service activities, and/or committee work
