Benjamin called the meeting to order at 2:30pm.
Nomination of Board Representative
Benjamin reported that Barbara Maxwell resigned her position on the Board of Directors. Michael Piper, Executive Director at INCOLSA has been recommended as a replacement. Wright moved that Piper be appointed to the IHETS Board of Directors. Alles seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved.
Budget Issues
King reported that the Senate has proposed a budget that includes a 50-60% reduction in IHETS appropriation. Senator Ford has told us that he will try to amend the budget on the Senate floor to re-instate the funding. If Ford is unsuccessful with an amendment, then the budget will likely go to a conference committee.
Staff has sent emails to numerous contacts requesting letters of support be sent to members of the Appropriations Committee. We have already received support letters from IPBS, Ivy Tech, Independent Colleges and Indiana State. King added that we have about one week to get something to the Appropriations Committee for consideration.
King will meet with institutional state relations representatives on Monday to discuss and review the IHETS strategy in relation to the budget process and get their input and feedback. In addition, King will meet with Meeks on April 12.
Response to the State Networking RFP
The group heard presentations by SBC, AT&T and ENA, Inc. as potential partners in response to the State Networking RFP.
Following the presentations, the consensus of the group was that we need to discuss the information presented and the options for responding to the RFP , possibly in Executive Session at a later date.
Legal Issues Update
Hensel reported that IHETS is continuing to respond and cooperate in the investigation. He added that Katz, Sapper and Miller has been hired to conduct a forensic audit at IHETS.
The next meeting is scheduled for April 11 in the IHETS Boardroom.
The meeting adjourned at 4:20pm.
