King awarded highest honor from ADECReleased: April 15, 2002 INDIANAPOLIS—Dave King, executive director of the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System (IHETS), has been awarded the prestigious Irving Award by the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC). At the annual ADEC Meeting on April 14 at Ohio State University, King was presented with ADEC’s highest award of honor for his dedication and innovative spirit that have guided the ADEC Program Panel for the past six years. ADEC is an international consortium of land grant institutions that provides economic distance education programs and services via the latest and most appropriate information technologies. According to Janet Poley, president and CEO of the American Distance Education Consortium, “From the strategic planning that resulted in the formation of ADEC to development of ADEC's Think Tank Collaboratory, Dave King has been fully and creatively engaged. He is a strong advocate of the land grant university philosophy and has worked consistently over the years to assure that through ADEC, the land grant universities ‘do together what none of them can do alone.’ He has served on the ADEC Board of Directors since 1998.” King currently serves as executive director of the IHETS. He was formerly the department head of the Agricultural Communication Service at Purdue University and continues to hold a 10 percent appointment in the office of the Dean of Agriculture. IHETS is a consortium of all higher education institutions in Indiana that includes the seven public colleges and universities as well as 31 independent colleges and universities.
