IHETS will seek independent forensic audit, legal counsel as investigation continues

Despite feelings of betrayal and dismay, we believe this individual’s activities are the result of his own breach of personal and professional ethics. His actions are in no way reflective of other IHETS staff who are honest, hard-working, and dedicated to serving the best interests of our members with the highest levels of quality and professionalism. In partnership with the IHETS board of directors and management committee, we are in the process of hiring an independent forensic auditor to examine our past financial records, current purchasing practices and procedures, and management structure. This auditor will help us determine the extent of this individual’s wrong-doing—and if there are other instances of misconduct on his part or the part of others—by examining IHETS’ procurement, purchasing, and billing processes and records. The auditor will also advise us how to prevent future problems of this nature. When complete, the results of this audit will be made available to the IHETS board of directors. If the auditor finds any potential indication of additional criminal activity, that will immediately be forwarded to the federal and state investigators. In addition, we are working with the IHETS board and management committee to hire independent legal counsel to assist us in cooperating with the investigators, advise us as how we should proceed as the investigation continues, and to help us manage the compliance process. In the mean time, IHETS is cooperating fully with law enforcement officials and others. As more information about the extent of this individual’s alleged activities becomes available and as the investigation continues, we will continue to share information with you. I am confident that IHETS is a solid organization which will emerge stronger and better after the investigation concludes. We take our public stewardship responsibilities and roles very seriously. We will continue to focus on reliability and member needs in all endeavors.
