Brief biography
Dewitt Latimer is deputy CIO (assistant VP/assistant provost) and chief technology officer at the University of Notre Dame. In this capacity, he has operational oversight of the IT infrastructure and serves as the university’s chief IT strategist.
Dr. Latimer has been a leader in higher education's national networking efforts for more than a decade and has played a key role in shaping higher education's position on national information technology policy issues. In a professional career that spans two decades, Dr. Latimer was previously executive director of statewide IT infrastructure for the University of Tennessee, director of academic computing and technology at Kent State University, and director of information technology at Clemson University College of Engineering and Sciences.
He serves on numerous national and EDUCAUSE committees, has served as a member of the SAC Board of Directors and past program chair, past fellow for the Educause Center for Applied Research (ECAR), and past co-chair of the EDUCAUSE Net@EDU Wireless Working Group.
Latimer received a B.S. and M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University and a Ph.D. in education (with a concentration in higher education administration) from the University of Tennessee.
