Call for presenters





Deadline for submission of presentation proposals
Thanks to all who responded to our Call for Presenters—we were pleased by the number of responses! The last day to submit presentation information was September 1, 2005. All proposals will be reviewed by 2005 Tech Summit planning committee and applicants will be notified by September 16 if they were selected as a presenter.

Who should be a presenter?
Do you have real-world examples and best practices related to deploying, utilizing, and/or managing new technologies on your campus? Share your knowledge and "lessons learned" with colleagues from across the state! We invite you to serve as a presenter for a concurrent breakout session at the 2005 IHETS Tech Summit.

Educational administrators, managers, and staff  who are responsible for selecting, deploying, operating, administering, or managing emerging educational technologies, including:

  • Chief information technology officers
  • Network and operations managers
  • Directors of information technology
  • Telecommunications managers
  • Instructional technology coordinators
  • Distance education administrators
  • Systems administrators
  • LAN managers
  • Technical support staff
  • Software engineers and developers

Presenters must be employed at or affiliated with
an IHETS member institution, which includes all of Indiana's public colleges and universities and members of the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI). Presentations can be made by a single individual or teams of individuals from one or more higher
education institution.

When and where is the event?
The 2005 IHETS Tech Summit will be held on
Wednesday, November 9 at the University Place Conference Center & Hotel on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis. Breakout sessions will be offered throughout the day after the conclusion of the
keynote speaker, beginning at approximately 10:30
and concluding later that afternoon.

How to submit a presentation proposal
Prepare a short abstract and description (300-500 words) of your session topic.

Once you've written your description, enter it in the area indicated on the Call for Presenters form, providing your name, address, and other contact information where requested. (Please be sure to click the "finish" button so your form is submitted.)

Presentation topics
Proposed sessions should focus on detailed examples, real-world situations, best practices, lessons learned, and strategies for utilizing existing and emerging educational technologies. We especially encourage presentations on these topics:

  • Infrastructure needs and support for course management systems
  • Wireless deployment across your campus
  • Effective WAN bandwidth management
  • State-of-the-art video streaming
  • Optical networking
  • Open source tools
  • Starting a new school year: mitigating damage from computer viruses, spyware, and other problems brought onto campus through infected student computers
  • Network security solutions being implemented on your campus

Format for concurrent sessions
Each session will be 45 minutes in length, during which presenter(s) deliver a lecture, conduct a panel discussion, and/or engage the audience in a discussion around a single topic or group of related topics. Although a variety of session formats are possible, presenters are encouraged to incorporate opportunities for audience participation. A laptop, LCD projector, and Internet connection will be provided. Other presentation equipment may be available upon request.

NOTE: Presenters who wish attendees to have hard copies of their presentation slides or other material are resonsible for providing them. Presenters who would like PowerPoint slides to be posted online so attendees can download and print their own hard copies should e-mail their slides to:
