The Rolling IT Horizon: Jumping the Curve

The 2007 Tech Summit is concluded. Selected presentation materials are available for viewing from the Program page (see tab above).

IHETS Tech Summit will take place March 30, 2007

The technology horizon continues to roll at a giddy pace. Once a luxury for speedy communication, long a necessity for research computation, information technology is now a requirement for the conduct of baseline operations in all economic sectors, with a constant stream of new tools and applications available.

Higher education continues to lead the curve in many respects. Faculty research and scholarship require quantum jumps in capacity. Effective teaching and learning demand the capability to involve new learners in new methods of constructing knowledge. The proliferation of consumer devices and Web 2.0 services fosters new student expectations for engagement. And the implementation of ever-larger repositories of personal data lures increasing numbers of criminals and malicious pranksters. Thus IT and the staff responsible for it are caught between being both problem and solution.

Join your colleagues from across the state to learn and share solutions to these rolling challenges at the seventh annual IHETS Tech Summit. This year's event will be held at the University Place Conference Center & Hotel on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis.

Van Houweling to keynote

Tech Summit 2007 keynote speaker will be Dr. Douglas E. Van Houweling, President and CEO of Internet2. As a former chair of the board of MERIT, Inc., when the National Science Foundation awarded it responsibility to operate the NSFNET national Internet backbone in 1987, Van Houweling understands the value state and regional networks bring to the higher education computing environment. Indiana's rolling technology horizon with implementation of I-Light across the state will open new opportunities for Indiana's colleges and universities to take advantage of advanced applications available through Internet2.
