INDIANAPOLIS—Indiana faculty, staff, and administrators who use technology to develop and deliver educational programs are invited to attend the 2006 IHETS All Partners Conference on April 21.
The event, titled “The XYZs of E-Learning: Understanding Today’s and Tomorrow’s Learners,” will focus on providing engaging, relevant learning experiences for a student body that spans multiple generations. Special attention will be given to the latest generation of learners, commonly known as Millennials or the Net Generation.
Staff at all Indiana public and private higher education institutions are encouraged to attend, including:
- Faculty, instructors, and graduate students
- Academic program administrators
- Instructional designers and technologists
- Student services professionals
- Distance education administrators and coordinators
- Librarians
A preconference workshop, titled “Blogs and Wikis: Connecting and Collaborating on the Read/Write Web, will be led by Will Richardson, an internationally recognized expert on the use of Weblogs, RSS, and related technologies in classrooms and schools.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Chris Dede, a renowned professor of learning technologies at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Dede, who will speak on neomillennial learning styles, will discuss how emerging digital media are shaping student motivations, attributes, and social patterns of learning. Today’s middle and high school students, for example, increasingly seek learning experiences that combine face-to-face interactions with shared virtual experiences across distance and time. These preferences have a number of implications for higher education.
Other highlights of the event will include breakout sessions on a wide range of topics, electronic poster sessions, vendor exhibits, and presentation of the fifth annual Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education (IPSE) awards.
