INDIANAPOLIS—Susan Scott, director of e-learning at IHETS, along with two colleagues from IHETS member institutions, presented a session titled “Scaling the Adoption of Advanced Applications,” on April 26 at the Spring 2006 Internet2 Member Meeting in Arlington, VA.

According to Scott, the session focused on how higher education can widen and accelerate the adoption of advanced network applications to support teaching and learning. The impacts on state networks and local campuses were also discussed.

“The 35 SEGP state networks participating in Internet2 need to share strategies to implement programs using advanced technology for education. Driving growth from within a specific discipline, like music, offers a solid likelihood of success,” Scott reports.

Dr. Fred Rees, head of graduate studies for the Indiana University School of Music at IUPUI, discussed a symposium he conducted to identify projects utilizing Internet2 for music performance, research, and teaching in Indiana, across the U.S., and around the world.

Dr. Tim Brimmer, associate professor of music education and technology at Butler University, attended the IU symposium and also served on the panel.

Led by more than 200 U.S. universities working with industry and government, Internet 2 develops and deploys advanced network applications and technologies for research and higher education.

The spring meeting highlighted Internet2’s partnerships among academia, industry, government, and the international community. Sessions included collaborations with and among federal agencies, between the corporate community and higher education, and with international organizations. They also emphasized campus cyberinfrastructure and the advanced networking needs of campus research and education communities.
