The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) has recommended IHETS' 2007–09 biennial budget to move forward as requested for consideration by the Governor and the legislature.
The request, approved by the IHETS Board of Directors, was formally submitted in August. It includes a three percent increase for each year of the new biennium in addition to the base appropriation approved by the state for the 2005–07 biennium.
IHETS Interim Director William D. Kramer was informed of the commission’s recommendation on November 10. Kramer, along with Lloyd Benjamin, chair of the board of directors, and Jeff Pittman, chair of the finance committee, presented the request during an October 13 meeting at Purdue University.
"The October presentation provided us with an opportunity share information illustrating the value of IHETS to its consortium members, affiliate partners, and state government, which is an important part of our internal restructuring and reorganization," Kramer said, adding that many of the commission's 14 members were in place when the last biennial budget request was reviewed by ICHE. Folders containing a variety of material offering more detail regarding IHETS services, usage statistics, e-learning enrollments, and more were distributed to approximately 40 individuals in attendance.
"Our goal is to demonstrate and emphasize that IHETS is a statewide consortium, serving all of Indiana's public and independent higher education institutions, state government, and other public-sector organizations," Kramer commented. "IHETS is more than just a few staff located on Senate Avenue in Indianapolis."
Kramer and other IHETS staff will continue to monitor the budget request through the approval process, expected to conclude in April.
