Dr. Douglas Van Houweling, president and CEO of Internet2, will deliver the keynote address launching the sixth annual IHETS Tech Summit.
The theme for this year’s conference is “The Rolling IT Horizon: Jumping the Curve.” Increased educational opportunities via Internet2 are available for consortium members connected to the state's I-Light network, which provides virtually unlimited bandwidth.
Although IHETS consortium members have been connected to Internet2 since 2002, limited bandwith and network capacity prevented full use of the connection. With connections to the I-Light network, Indiana’s colleges and universities will be positioned to utilize a range of advanced technologies.
Van Houweling has led the Internet2 consortium since its inception in 1996, an accomplishment which led EDUCAUSE to recognize his efforts with its 2002 Excellence in Leadership Award. Previously, he chaired the board of directors at MERIT, Inc., Michigan’s statewide computing organization and helped lead the development of NSFNET, the nation’s first Internet backbone.
A professor in the School of Information at the University of Michigan, Dr. VanHouweling has held faculty positions at Carnegie-Mellon and Cornell universities. He earned a doctorate in government from Indiana University.
The 2007 IHETS Tech Summit will be held March 30 at the University Place Conference Center & Hotel on the IUPUI campus. Registration begins February 10.
