IHETS Interactive's required bandwidth can range as low as 20-50 Kbps for audio only applications. With additional features engaged, such as video, application sharing, Whiteboard, and PowerPoint the average bandwidth for the user would be in the range of 250-300 Kbps. A cable or DSL broadband connection is recommended for home users. Dial-up connections are not recommended and are not supported by IHETS.
A recent class, for instance, was Ball State University's EDAD 600 "Introduction to Educational Leadership" conducted during the fall 2006 semester. The class had 35 students enrolled, with 24 students taking the course directly from their own homes via a cable or DSL connection, while the remaining students participated from one of the traditional receive sites established for the course. IHETS Interactive has proved a successful delivery method and the course has been scheduled for the spring and summer semesters using this service.
Control of the application bandwidth is based upon a very simple one-time system setup. For more information review the IHETS Interactive supporting documentation or contact Tim Paige tpaige@ihets.org, 317.263.8967 or George Khazal gkhazal@ihets.org, 317.263.8870.
