The IHETS board of directors approved a budget request for the 2007-09 biennium of $4.8 million and $4.9 million, amounting to a three percent increase over the current biennium.
In October of last year the Indiana Commission on Higher Education (ICHE) recommended that IHETS’ 2007–09 appropriation request be approved as submitted. The Indiana House of Representatives passed House Bill 1001 on February 23rd, including the amounts requested by IHETS. Another $9 million was included in HB 1001 for connecting campuses to the I-Light fiber optic network under an economic development initiative entitled “I-Light 2-Black Fiber”. HB 1001 will now move to the senate as the legislative process continues.
The IHETS Executive Committee continues to work with Dr. William D. Kramer, IHETS’ interim director, in exploring ways to communicate to the legislative leadership the plans and budget needs of IHETS.
