IP Video Information for Technology Coordinators

What can we do with IP video?

IP-based two-way interactive video is highly versatile, lending itself to many different types of educational and administrative uses. Because of the ability to bridge different sources of video, you will have many options for using IP video. Bridging is the means by which different types of video conferencing technologies are interconnected so that they are all compatible with each other. This is performed by IHETS video engineers.

Using IP video equipment through the ITN, you may access content including Internet2 programs, Vision Athena events, and satellite programming. You may also wish to set up individual videoconferences with other schools for training or administrative uses.

There are a number of reliable sources for video content that originate outside the state of Indiana that can be used in the classroom or for credit/noncredit professional development. These resources include lesson plans or modules that can be integrated into existing curricula; many of these may address state academic standards. A representation of the types of resources currently available is included.

Indiana College Network
The Indiana College Network (ICN) is your gateway to e-learning from Indiana colleges and universities. A service of the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System (IHETS), the mission of ICN is to ensure that lifelong learning opportunities are available via distance education to Indiana residents no matter where they may live or work.

Jason Project
Schools participating in the JASON Project have access to the award-winning curriculum, videos, and a gated online community throughout the year. In addition, they may bring the live two-week Expedition Broadcast into the classroom via satellite equipment or the Internet.

SouthwestNet Distance Learning Collaborative
This project of 20 public school districts in Southwestern Michigan features a searchable database of collaborative, interactive videoconference events.

Utah Education Network’s EDNET
EDNET is a two-way, fully interactive video network that allows students to take classes that might not be available to them in their local community.

Pennsylvania Distance Learning Exchange
The Distance Learning Exchange provides information about a variety of distance learning activities such as Web Quests, satellite teleconferences, electronic field trips, video conferencing courses, and email exchanges.

NASA Virtual Visits
The NASA Glenn Research Center Learning Technologies Project (LTP) offers video conferencing connections between teachers and students and NASA scientists, engineers, researchers, and education specialists.

Pacific Bell Knowledge Network Explorer
The SBC Pacific Bell Knowledge Network Explorer Video conferencing for Learning Web site supports the effective and educational uses of video conferencing technology by providing basic information about the technology and instructional applications as well as resources to help you link with other video conferencing teachers, librarians, and content providers.
