| The Genealogy Division has developed over time to become one of the largest collections of family history information in the Midwest. The collection includes 40,000 printed items (family histories, indexes to records, how-to books, cemetery transcriptions, family history magazines, and more) as well as microfilmed federal census records, Indiana county records, passenger lists, and military pension information. The collection includes hundreds of CDs with family history information, as well as online subscriptions to AncestryPlus and HeritageQuest. |

| The Internet has become a valuable tool for anyone involved in genealogy research. This seminar will explore how you can effectively use online resources to conduct your research in the comfort of your own home. Topics include comparing traditional and online research, how to organize your online search, and how to access materials in foreign languages. You will also be able to go to various Web sites during the class such as National Archives, databases, and vital records to help pinpoint your search. If you are new to genealogy research or want to expand your search, this seminar can help you. You should have basic PC and Internet surfing skills. |

| As with Pele and members of her family, the genealogical linkage of an individual to a group of people and a particular place of setting is unique and maintains a historical passage to one's own future. In this lesson, students will study the genealogy in the film Holo Mai Pele, conduct research on their own family's history, and create heraldries using symbols they have devised. |

It is recommended that 4H members not start the Genealogy project until grade 8. Attendance at a Genealogy workshop is encouraged. |
