IHETS research and development services
Overview
The R&D team at IHETS is dedicated to the ongoing research and implementation of new technology. On these pages, you will find the latest R&D updates, technical specifications, and other information for IHETS projects and services, including IHETS Interactive.
The R&D team researches and tests the application of new technologies and then shares the results of these efforts through reports and white papers. This research and testing may be done at the suggestion of, and in cooperation with, member institutions. In some cases, such as IP video and IP telephony, task forces are organized to assist in the projects
Most recently, IHETS engineers and product research analysts have been engaged in-depth comparisons of multiconference units (MCUs). How an MCU receives and transmits video and audio is of high importance in the day-to-day operation of providing distance education and other services via two-way video conferencing.
One recent report compares the Cisco 3540 MCU against the Radvision ViaIP MCU. The objective was to see how each MCU would receive video and audio from one codec and then send it out to two other codecs in the same conference.
Another report describes evaluation and testing related to how Cisco’s VT Advantage Video Phone performed when connecting to a variety of endpoints. The endpoints used in this evaluation were two VT Advantage endpoints, an H.323 endpoint, and an MCU.
